Castles
Drumlanrig Castle is the ancient stronghold and Dumfriesshire home of the Duke of Buccleuch and Queensberry. Set amidst the 120,000 acre Queensberry Estate, Drumlanrig is steeped in history, filled with treasures and boasts a beautiful Victorian Garden and Country Park. The Estate offers excellent woodland walks, interesting wildlife, way-marked cycle routes, championship mountain bike trails and a terrific adventure playground for the kids.

Traquair Castle in the Scottish Borders was originally a hunting lodge for the kings and queens of Scotland. It later became the home of the Earls of Traquair and is still lived in by the descendants of the Maxwell Stuart family. It is now well known as the oldest inhabited house in Scotland.

Cycling
The 7stanes are seven mountain biking centres spanning the south of Scotland, from the heart of the Scottish Borders to Dumfries and Galloway. The nearby centre at Ae has trails ideal for entry level riders and families, alongwith trails and downhill routes for the more experienced rider.


Golf
The excellent condition of this fine traditional Scottish moorland course and the welcoming clubhouse reinforce the notion that Moffat should be near the top of any golfer's list of courses to play.

Gardens
Craigieburn garden occupies a spectacularly beautiful site, nestling in the lea of Hunterheck Hill, and surrounded by ancient woodland. The fast flowing stream called the Craigieburn tumbles through a string of steep waterfalls and meanders round the perimeter of the garden in a deep gorge.
